Almost Ready to Leave

Its been awhile since we wrote anything…..    We left our jobs around May 5th and started working fulltime on getting Sojourn and ourselves ready to leave Lake Superior.  It has been both emotionally and physically challenging. The amount of work preparing the boat has been overwhelming at times.   Our work at our previous jobs certainly would have paid more but couldn’t come close to being as rewarding!  We have had friends and family visit us at Barkers Island Marina (Superior, WI) and are very appreciative of their support.

We have been fortunate to have shared this time with Bill and Cindy Ista (Johesa) and developed a close bond as they also were preparing their boat.  Both boats water lines have suffered the consequences of accommodating all the basic items necessary to support our cruising life.  We tossed them their dock lines on June 7th as they have now embarked on their journey.  We miss them but know we will meet again.

Our last tie to our land based life was participating in our granddaughter, Clarissa’s high school graduation.  Weather permitting we will be leaving Barkers on Monday, June 12th.

We plan on leaving Lake Superior via Sault Saint Marie Locks heading for Lake Huron where we will be stopping onlong the way in the North Channel/Georgian Bay area.  We’ll be staying  mostly in Canada while finishing Lake Huron.  Once in Lake Erie we will proceed to Lake Ontario via the Welland Canal (Niagara Fallls area) and heading up to Toronto and east to the  1000 islands area of the St. Lawrence River. We will then enter the Oswego canal in Oswego NY and eventually join the Erie Canal.  We then will proceed to Hudson River and enter New York City.  To get to the Intracoastal Waterway entrace near New Jersey, we will need to venture out to the Atlantic Ocean for awhile.  Then we proceed down to Florida and hopefully to the Bahama’s for winter of 2007.  Stay tuned as this all may change.

We look forward to your e-mails to keep us posted on your life and journey!
